Bruce Giffin describes himself as a "painfully self-taught still photographer who attempts to photograph how something makes me feel rather than show what it looks like". He has been closely associated with Detroit's Metro Times, as that paper's only staff photographer for about half of the tabloid's twenty year existence. During that time he has cover the city from north to south and east to west, from the downtown corridor to the distant suburbs. This photo is typical of Giffin's best personal work, which is often done while traveling from one assignment to another. He prefers magazine and newspaper work, and has had his work appear in such publications as the New York Times, Upstart, and Metropolis. He has been granted several press awards and gallery showings attesting to the caliber of his work. The energy, enthusiasm, and constant smile he brings to each assignment results in a compelling archive of Detroit images. |
