a Kalashnikov of the Justice Equality Movement rebels. Virtually
all the villages along this route were evacuated. Some 200,000
have reported to have crossed into Chad and are now in refugee
camps there. The majority, however, are caught in the arid wilderness
evading Janjaweed militia patrols and government military units.
