[8-4-04,
5:24 am] Northern Darfur, Sudan: Hamed, the General Coordinator
of the Justice Equality Movement, stands with his Thuraya satellite
phone and his shortwave radio while his soldiers pack up their
trucks to head for their base camp. The will of the movement
began initially in the marginalized Darfur States many years
ago, but was constructed outside of Sudan and began to hit Sudanese
military installations in Darfur near the close of 2002. The
backlash and support of the Janjaweed by the Government of Sudan
has now displaced somewhere around 2 million Darfurians.
